25 March 1942: The Great Exodus
ASKI – Heterotopia PartnershipDescription
The educational programme “25 March 1942: The Great Exodus” invites students to step into Athens in 1942. Through a meeting with a young university student, they explore everyday life under German occupation through her eyes, as she shares her thoughts, fears, and hopes. Katerina confronts moral and practical dilemmas like those that shaped the lives of countless people at the time, challenges that remain painfully familiar to people living in war zones today. We meet her just before the major demonstration of 25 March 1942, when her decisions will have real consequences for herself and for those around her. Over the course of this 50-minute live learning experience, students work with authentic archival material, piecing together information that may help Katerina navigate what lies ahead. Although Katerina is a fictional character, she is grounded in historical evidence and carefully researched, evidence-based interpretation.
The programme draws on museum theatre, an established approach to museum interpretation and learning that uses theatrical techniques to foster critical engagement with questions of both past and present.
